What is
children’s theatre?
Children’s theatre is plays that have been adapted or
specifically written for children or young people.
What skills
does an excellent children’s theatre performer need to possess?
A children’s theatre performer needs many abilities,
such as having a high tolerance to noise and disturbances from the audience.
They also need the ability to be able to adapt themselves to be more appealing
and fun to a younger audience.
How would
you adapt an issue for delivery to a specific audience?
To adapt an issue to a specific audience you need to
have done research into the way others have done so and alter it into your own
performance giving you knowledge of the topic. You also need to have the right
attitude to the topic as if you have a similar attitude toward it as you want
to portray this makes it much easier.
Week 2
What tasks
did you do in lesson today towards creating TTWCTT?
The lesson began by us learning who was to play which
part Tahlia as Sophie, Hector as Dad and myself as Mum. From this the class
paired up and began balling ideas as to who could be at the door when the tiger
knocks. From this we decided which would be best in the play and began
developing them for a children’s theatre performance by using character
development techniques (both main characters and ensemble).
How do you
think this will contribute to TTWCTT?
I feel this will contribute to the performance as it
will give us an opportunity to perfect these characters to become something
that children will enjoy watching.
Week 3
Are the
ideas affective? Are they theatrical and, if not, can they be made theatrical?
Will they appeal to ‘Little People’? Why / why not?
In this lesson we finalised our ideas and shared them
with each other and I think that they are very affective and appealing to
‘Little People’ as they are all things that they will understand and find
enjoyable. They also where theatrical and a lot of fun to watch because they
drew the audience in using jokes that all ages would understand.
Week 4
Do you
think the material you have created this week will be suitable for ‘Little
People’? Why is it / why is it not suitable?
I did not attend this lesson due to being in Germany
so was not there to contribute toward the making of these pieces.
Week 5 (Dress Rehearsal)
Was the
dress rehearsal performed confidently and effectively? Did it communicate the
intentions in a controlled and engaging manner?
The dress rehearsal showed us exactly what needed
working on and personally I believe it wasn’t performed to the full confidence
we should have but it was very effective in the way it was performed. I also
believe that it did communicate the intentions very well as everyone watching
showed to be engaged within the performance and we filled the space well.
